英語は主語が長くなるのを避ける傾向がある。
そのためitという形式主語を用いることがある。

It is not easy to give up drinking.
酒をやめることは簡単ではない。
〈動名詞の主語〉
Eating junk food all the time can't be healthy.

It can't be healthy eating junk food all the time.
いつもジャンクフードばかり食べることは健康なはずがない。
Crying over spilt milk is no use.
↓
It is no use crying over spilt milk.
