so that構文には3種類ある。
《目的》 〈…so that …〉
I studied hard so that I could pass the exam.
試験に合格できるように一生懸命勉強した。
Speak quietly so that he might be listening.
彼が聞いてるかもしれないから静かに話して。
《結果》〈…, so that …〉
He slept outside, so that he got cold.
彼は外で寝たので風邪を引いた。
Work harder, so that you could be rich.
一生懸命働きなさい、そうすれば金持ちになれるかもしれない。
《程度と結果》〈so 〜 that …〉
She was so beautiful that everybody wanted to go out with her.
彼女はとても美しかったので誰もが付き合いたがった。
Roy wasn't so tired that he couldn't walk.
ロイは歩けないほど疲れてはいなかった。
